Family Intervention Services
LSG supports and assists children and families by providing services that focus on strengthening families. Family Intervention Services (FIS) is part of LSG’s Continuum of Service model.
Family Intervention Services are offered at the following locations:
A+ PARENTS PROGRAM
The A+ Parents Program focuses on strengthening families by providing a continuum of services from parenting education for all parents of young children to more intensive services for families at risk for intervention. Evidenced-based parenting programs are offered for families raising children with typical age appropriate behaviors and children with more severe behavioral issues, developmental delays, and medical needs. For families at risk of coming to the attention of the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), the A+ Parenting Program focuses on preventing family issues from escalating to the point of requiring Child Protective Services (CPS) intervention and/or out-of-home placements.
We cater our program to meet the needs of families through training.
- In-home nursing education
- In-home parenting
- Family life skills
Our training includes:
- Co-parenting/healthy marriage/healthy relationship workshops
- Center-based parenting groups
- In-home counseling
SUPERVISED FAMILY VISITATION
Supervised Family Visitation program focuses on families who require quality, structured supervised visits and other family support services to assist with reunifying families whose children have been placed in foster care. The program also provides visitation for siblings who have been separated by being placed in different foster homes.
Supervised Family Visitation occurs at our established visitation centers. The visitation centers provide a home-like, non-threatening, and neutral environment that supports meaningful contact between children and the people in their lives.
Additionally, LSG partners with DFCS to offer other additional services:
- Prevention of Out of Home Placement (PUP)
- Family Visitation Services
- Home Study Preparation
- Relative Home Evaluations
- Comprehensive Child and Family Assessments (CCFA)
- Wrap Around (WA)
- Parent Aide
Post-Reunification Follow-Up Services (Atlanta Only):
FIS also collaborates with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) to provide family reunification follow-up services for unaccompanied minors who have recently migrated to the United States.
We receive referrals from the sources listed below.
- Family Court
- Child Support Enforcement
- Self referral

Volunteers are a very important part of our Family Intervention Services program. Whether expanding awareness of our program, working directly with families, providing in-kind services, or assisting with the transportation needs of our clients, volunteers have a vital role to play. If you are interested in volunteering, please take a look at our volunteer opportunities or contact us here.
Lutheran Services of Georgia’s Family Intervention Services department receives funding from the Department of Human Services, Promoting Safe and Stable Families, Division of Family and Children Services, LIRS, United Way Coastal Empire, Fulton County Health and Human Services, Georgia State University, and many more which enables us to help families in need.
FIS success is measured by the following outcomes:
1) Children are, first and foremost, protected from abuse and neglect and safely maintained in their homes whenever possible.
2) Children have permanency and stability in their living situations.
3) Families have enhanced capacity to provide for their children’s needs.
