Volunteer Opportunities for Individuals

Lutheran Services of Georgia - Volunteer

In order to guide people who have experienced disruptions and trauma from surviving to thriving, we rely on volunteers to assist us in a number of ways.

 Hands On Volunteers

We have many hands-on opportunities that allow volunteers to work directly with people in need.  We call these "relationship building" volunteers as they befriend, mentor and tutor the individuals and families that LSG serves.

Are you looking for a way to help Unaccompanied Children?  Click here for opportunities to serve and advocate with LSG and other organizations.

Among our current relationship-building volunteer needs are

First Friend Cultural Mentors
Volunteer with a refugee family or individual on a weekly basis for six months to a year. Practice English, provide cultural mentorship, and assist with cultural orientation.

Afterschool Program Volunteers
Volunteer with our Bright Futures Afterschool program at Clarkston High School. Help with ESOL on a weekly basis from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, or lead a lesson on your area of expertise.  Art, language, and physical activity lessons are particularly appreciated, as this program focuses on building trauma resiliency.

Contact Janelle Moore for information on these and other opportunities with our Refugee and Immigration Services program.  Contact Melanie Johnson for information on other opportunities to work directly with those we serve.

Special Events

Volunteers support LSG by assisting and participating at service and fundraising events, including:

  • MLK Day of Service (January)
  • Hunger Walk/Run (February)
  • Golf Tournaments and other Fundraising Events (throughout the year)

Administrative/Support Volunteers

Support LSG's work by volunteering in one of our 'behind the scenes' roles.   Opportunities include working in one of our local offices, assisting in various administrative tasks or projects or sorting and organizing items in our Clothing Closet in Clarkston, GA.
